Sister Stitcher

I know that Christmas sooo last year, but I have a little something to show you. As you may know, every Christmas Eve we hold Sisters' Night. This tradition was started over 20 years ago where all of us sisters would sleep in the same bed and wait for Santa to come. And of course, waiting for Santa is a little better when you are distracted by some presents.

But as we get a older, Sisters' night has had to evolve. Life has a way of changing things so we just roll with the punches. Like this year, Bri and Adam celebrated Christmas in Hong Kong. So for my Sister's Night gift, I decided to embroider some pillowcases. Cause I figured, if we can't sleep in the same place, we might as well sleep on the same thing.

Sorry, the pillowcase is all wrinkle-y.
I promised I ironed it before I gave it to my sisters.

I used The Black Apple pattern from Sublime Stitching. I just loved the little trees and who-ville houses, they seemed very Christmas-y to me. Here are some more close ups:

And how do sisters celebrate Sisters' Night when separated by an ocean. Via webcam, of course.

And not to be out done, Erin made us lounge pants that are the perfect length and Bri gave me the first season of 30 Rock. Ya ya! All in all a perfect Sisters' Night.

i'm a new reader of your blog and i love it! what a sweet, sweet idea. i just might have to borrow it for my sister and me! for the past two years since i have been married, she and i have not been able to sleep in the same bed on christmas eve. it's a very sad thing! it was a christmas eve night tradition that we have been struggling with, and i think this will help the magic come back... just a little... for that night for us! thanks for sharing such a sweet idea!!!

What a great idea! I haven't done any embroidery in years. I keep seeing such neat things, though. I may have to give it a whirl again.

I popped over to your sister's blog and had a peek at the lounge pants. I bought the exact same pink floral fabric as she used for Bri's (was it Bri?) pants... intending to sew the same pattern.

The pillowcase is so cute!

As a parent there are few wishes or hopes of my own that I impose on my children, their life is theirs to lead...but one thing I will hope for is that my kids stay this close throughout their lives. It really is so touching and warms my heart to hear how close you guys are despite your distance.

REALLY cute! Where do you find your embroidery patterns? I have looked for some cute ones, but mostly find lame ones.

So darling! I must admit that embroidery is a bit beyond me, so I am very impressed.

I always knew that you had a special gift for stitching. Your counted cross-stitch projects were amazing. How fun it is to see you take a simple embroidery stitch and turn it into a cherished treasure for your sisters. The pillowcases are darling and so are you for taking the time to be so creative and thoughtful for sisters' night!

What a sweet gift and I love your tradition!!! The embroidery came out just perfect.

What a great idea to do the webcam too, to still be able to celebrate together. I hope you'll all get to spend some time in person soon. :)

I love the Sisters' Night Tradition. Makes me want to have 3 girls. Probably not going to happen...but it makes me want it nonetheless. And the perfect gift. Every year I love asking you what you are planning because it is always wonderful!!!
