Thanks, Uncle Sam!

Dear Uncle Sam,

Thanks for that tax refund. I was able to put it to excellent use. (See attached picture.)

Now I'm off to stimulate the economy (read: buy fabric).

God Bless America.
Kara

PS - It is totally a Project Runway Limited Edition sewing machine. I promise I didn't buy it out of a deep, dark need to do Tim Gunn impersonations while sewing ("Make it work, people", "Carry on"). Sewing genius Ann and Consumer Reports both gave me the thumbs up. So there.

Can I get a hoot hoot?

Well here it is, my new warm and woolly sweater. Just in time for spring. I've always suffered from impeccable timing. But regardless of the beautiful weather out my window, I'm pretty excited about my new knit.

Here are those all-important stats...

Pattern: Owls
Source: Kate Davis
Yarn: Knit Picks Swish Bulky
Made for: Moi
Needle Size: US 10 and 10 1/2
Date Started: February 7, 2009
Date Completed: March 22, 2009
Mods: Due to my gauge, I ended up knitting the largest size in order to fit a 38" bust. Oh, and I added quite of bit of length to the torso and the arms.

This is the best kind of pattern. Easy to knit and darling to boot. It goes to show you, a cute sweater doesn't need a lot of bells and whistles, just lots and lots of buttons. And after visiting two separate JoAnn's, I was able to get those pesky buttons. Who knew finding 42 matching was such a herculean task?

But in the end, all that effort was worth it. Don't you think so?

There's just one thing. I worry that with this sweater, people will keep saying to me, "Nice hooters." (Sorry, Mom and Dad, I couldn't help myself.)

Thank you.

You all are really wonderful, you know that? Thank you so much for all of your kind comments on my Grandpa's passing. He was a class act for sure. I'm going out to Hawaii next week for the funeral and expect it'll be a special time for my family. As a result, I might not be the best blogger the next couple of weeks.

That being said, I have a feeling you'll see a certain finished knit sometime this weekend. Now if only, I can find 42 matching buttons...

"Remember who you are."

That's what my Grandpa would religiously say every time we said good-bye. It was like his way of saying "Good-bye", "Don't be less than you are", and "I love you" all at once.

Well, Grandpa, I'll always remember. Thanks to you. I'm going to miss you so much.

Who's there?

Just some owls that need to be blocked and get their button eyes, Coraline style!

Weekend Sewing

Is it weird to buy sewing books when you don't own a sewing machine? I say, No.

PS - Thank you so much for all your compliments about my flat. A lot of love has gone into putting it together, so your comments mean so much.

My Flat: The Living Room "After" Edition

The living room. The heart of any home, right? Well, I guess my heart is full...of furniture. Curtains have been hung. Rug laid.

The entryway set.

Mirror hung.

Books cased.

Even the trinkets have been trinkled. (I'm feeling so good, I'm making up words!)

So the only thing left to do with this living room is the living bit.
