Purple plaid...fab or egad?

Remember the cape? Well, I recently bought this wool fabric for it. But before I go and start cutting and sewing, I simply need to ask: Is purple plaid a little too nutty for this pattern?

Purple Plaid

When I picked it, I was picturing a modern-day take on Sherlock chic.

So, friends, is it fab or egad?

For the love of what's good and holy, please make it with the purple plaid! own it! (not sure I have any credibility as an eccentric cape-wearer... but just go with it ok? :D )

I think it's pretty awesome. Do it! Take the plunge with a purple plaid cape.

FAB! If you're going to rock a cape, might as well make it purple plaid. Love it.

You're wearing a cape, so I think inconspicuous is already out. I love the plaid! And I want a Sherlock cape now!

Love it! Love it! (imagine me chanting). I too bought a cape recently, but its a humble black one. Thank you Primarni.

Ummm... I THINK you know what I'm going to say, but I'll say it anyways, YOU NEED TO HAVE PURPLE!!! Do it!!

I say fab, and that's not just because I made a purple plaid dress for my birthday a few months back. Like someone else said, go big or go home!

I love the idea of a cape. Real Simple had a great spread in their September issue with a fabulous purple cape. I think you will pull the look together perfectly with your great sense of style.

FAB! It's gorgeous fabric.

As long as you are not planning to make a matching floppy tam with an oversized pom pom on the top I think it is perfect!

(On second thought, you and your hat-rockin' self could probably even make the tam look good.)

FAB! I can't wait to see it!!

EGAD!!!

(kidding, I just wanted to say something different.)

It's hard for me to imagine. I like the purple, but the plaid seems kind of large and bold for a plaid, at least from your picture.

I vote yes! I have two purple plaid skirts and love them. Everyone needs some purple plaid in their wardrobe.

I think it would be fun, and I'd totally wear it, if I ever got out of pj's. Or, with pj's. Yeah, I'd totally wear it!

um, i'm kind of obsessed with the phrase "fab or egad."

I believe you can pull it off. To quote Tim Gunn, "Make it work!" And I know you will. :-)
The purple plaid is perfect.

Purple is totally hot right now. Go for it! I'm envisioning you as a super chic Carmen San Diego. Did she have a cape or a trench? Anyhoo, with all that travel under your belt you should have mad geography skills.

so fab, but I am a self proclaimed nut for anything plaid. Just make sure you match the plaids when you make the cape-- promise me?

I don't have a sense of the scale of the plaid here. But it's a cape, so, just throw the fabric over your shoulder, and see what you think!
My other comment (for free) is, check and see what the finished bottom circumfrence of your pattern will be. The one in the picture looks very full, and your pattern looks 'not as full' around the bottom. You may want to cut it with more volume, so that you get that kicky "flying in the wind" look that the model has.
Wow! I cannot WAIT to see!

Definitely FAB.

Looks great to me, but please keep in mind I'm probably not the person to ask when it comes to fabric projects...but I do love the fabric!
Also, wonderful scarf you've got going on the needles. The book cover tee's....a future gift for someone - thanks for the info!

I say FAB. I could totally see this working for you as a Sherlock chic. By the way, I love your P&P t-shirt (might have to get me one too). Your neck is looking like its healed well. How have you been feeling?

Go for it! I think you have just the right personality to pull off Sherlock chic! I would keep every other item of clothing toned way down though, so it doesn't compete.

Your nieces are so going to want to steal, um, borrow this from you someday.
